Iris Apfel - Skull and Flower bangle by Jolita Jewellery

My brother always admired Iris Apfel and in one of the recent interviews when asked “If your designs were a celebrity who would they be” he answered “Without a doubt Iris Apfel.”

So it’s very exciting to see this week’s “Four Fashion Icons” feature by Boticca, where each fashion icon is “paired” with the pieces handmade by Boticca designers. And our Skull and Flower bangle is attributed to Iris’s accessories box or perhaps closet…?

Jolita Jewellery designer Algis loves Iris, because her sense of colour and eye for the unusual are outstanding. Skull and Flower bangle is made with a myriad of unusual components: vintage cabochons set in old earrings, unwanted crystal brooches, clusters of glass and Swarovski crystals, finely craved black bone skull set in faux turquoise flower, finest hand-spun Indian silk and more! These are just some of the materials used to create this quirky piece.

Want to own one of our unusual, bold statement pieces? Then come and check our Boticca online store. Have your own ideas? Get in touch! We love transforming your dreams into wearable pieces.

Photo shoots, bespoke orders, interview…we are busy multitasking

Jolita Jewellery workshop

Hello and happy Friday!

We’ve been a bit quiet recently, but that’s not because nothing is happening. On the contrary, many things are happening.

We are rushing around with the pieces being delivered to various photo shoots, we are working on a number of bespoke orders that are being shipped to our customers in France, Spain and even Hong Kong! We are also working on a very big order for a boutique in New York, answering questions for an upcoming interview, handcrafting new pieces and are in the process of setting up a new shiny website. Phew!

All that keeps us occupied and time flies by. So hopefully very soon we will be able to show you some finished products and share with you more news. Stay tuned…

Have a great weekend!
Best wishes,

Skulls can be feminine

TrendHunter - Jolita Jewellery Arachne rings

Right now we are working on setting up a new website and whilst reviewing our collections available for sale it reminded me that I haven’t blogged in a while about our rings.

Since all our jewellery is created by my brother one of the most interesting parts of the process for me is not only seeing the final piece, but also hearing the story behind each one of them.

Our ring collection Arachne is named after a mortal who by great goddess of crafts Athena was turned into a spider. Each piece from this collection is meticulously handcrafted using ancient weaving and knotting techniques, hence the name.

The common yet distinctive feature that all rings bear is one of our favourite components – skulls. Sounds too dark? Not according to TrendHunter. Skulls are hand carved in various colours and combined with pink or red coral, amethyst or crystals that “give them sparkle and combat the harsh nature of the hand-carved skulls”.

The most favourite of mine is Czarevna ring, which translated from Russian means princess. Adorned with oversized clear rock crystal and two white skulls this is a truly distinctive piece powerful enough for royals.

Another favourite of mine is Dreamcatcher ring. Hand carved black buffalo horn skull is embellished with pink coral beads and adorned with herkimer diamond, which are believed to help retrieve one’s dreams… Very mysterious.

There’s more to choose from! You can check available pieces from Arachne collection in our Boticca online store and we also accept orders for custom made pieces.

My brother loves incorporating skulls into his pieces, so if you have your own ideas – let us know!

Jolita Jewellery: Behind the scenes video

We love working with stylists and lending our jewellery for the shoots, recently we even been invited to one by Haute Life magazine. It’s always fascinating to watch the preparations, well at least I love absorbing the entire process… so imagine my excitement receiving behind the scenes video from one of the recent shoots with stylist Emma Breden.

One of my favourites – Joia necklace makes appearance at around 2.30 min and the Psychodelic Freda necklace around 3.20 min. If you keep watching the video you will see how amazingly Joia necklace sparkles!!

Can’t wait to see the final images when published.

Designer interview: travels, freedom, inspiration and more

Moteris Cover - January 2012

We are very thrilled to get more press coverage. This time it’s an article about Jolita Jewellery designer Algis and his creations in leading Lithuanian lifestyle magazine Moteris (Woman). If you are wondering why Lithuania – that’s because this is our home country, although Algis and I (his sister:) Jolita) live in London for over 15 years.

Moteris - Designer interview, January 2012

For those who don’t speak the lingo, the article talks about Algis’s dream that prompted him to start making jewellery, about his travels around the world, settling in London, freedom, creating jewellery, collecting piles of various objects that later get incorporated into jewellery, inspiration and more.
