Jolita Jewellery

A place to spill the beans about what's happening in Jolita Jewellery's world.

Colour Inspiration: Electro model

I saw these images yesterday and they absolutely captivated me. This is editorial for Spanish V Magazine shot by Pierre Debusschere.

The main focus seems to be the colours and jewellery and I thought that’s right up my street! The images are so beautiful, it’s a feast for your eyes.

The abundance of brooches reminds me of Mummy Returns movie and the scarabs attack. Except that these “scarabs” seem to be very luxurious and not harmful at all.

(All images are from Trendland)

Hope you found the photos just as beautiful as I did:)

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Tribal Inspiration: it’s all about jewellery

Yesterday I had a wonderful day, because I spent all of it at the photo shoot. I love love love all the behind the scenes actions and having an opportunity to be there myself fills me all with excitement each time it happens.

I saw it all up close: the models, the hair, the make-up being done, changing the looks of the models from one to another and then of course shooting it all.

The shoot was coordinated and put in the can so to speak by the photographer Arron Dunworth. With an impressive biography and list of high end clients, Arron is incredibly friendly and great fun to be around.

The main focus of the shoot was jewellery and hair, so there were no fancy outfits. Which made it all even better, giving the jewellery all the attention it deserved.

I took a few…well loads of snaps myself. But when I got home I discovered that I am just unable to operate the iPhone and a lot of the pictures are a bit blurry. Nevertheless I’m happy I had a chance to capture it all myself and am eagerly awaiting for the professional images:)

So here are a few of mine. First up – “Getting it all ready” – the studio, the selection of Jolita Jewellery pieces and the make-up.

Rachel is getting her hair and make-up done.

The first look is completed and Rachel is being shot with our Ibiza necklace, statement bangle and El Carmen clip-on earrings.

Next up – St.Tropez necklace, Ode to Solitude bangle and La Coruna clip-on earrings.

There were so many beautiful poses that I found it difficult to choose which ones to post so here are a few more….

Below is another of my favourite pictures. Regardless that it’s pretty blurry I kind of like it… as it shows a movement. In the picture you can see Arron at work.

Whilst Rachel and Arron were shooting Zim arrived on the set and was put to work straight away. In the picture below you can see Zim getting the tribal look.

Rachel also had her hair and make-up changed. Here are a few snaps of both of them together.

I was also very pleased that Arron decided to go with my suggestion on putting our necklace on Zim and chose Lyon necklace. I think it looks pretty cool!

Well…few more snaps later – and it’s a wrap:) In this picture Rachel is wearing Elena Necklace and Las Vegas clip-on earrings. Look at the hair! I love it!

The newest hair style collection by Toni&Guy

Yesterday I was invited to attend a fashion show by Toni&Guy. We loaned some jewellery for the show so I was very excited to see how it will be styled.

First things first. What surprised me most (although I bet it will probably make sense to others) the show was dedicated to present the new hairstyles collection. I’ve got to admit that such thought never crossed my mind. Sure I’d notice the popular styles in the magazines, on the blogs, on the streets, but I never thought these might be put together as a collection… Well now I know!

I won’t be able to describe the styles as am lacking the knowledge and understanding, instead I’ll show some pictures of the styles that caught my attention and of course our jewellery:)

First it was a model with handmade origami attached to her hair.

The next model’s hair do was closer to “usual” and something that is much easier achievable. This model was also wearing one of our pieces – Elena necklace. I really love the entire look, the dress is absolutely gorgeous.

Once the ladies left, it was time for male models.

In the picture below the two guys standing a bit further were wearing pretty cool suits. You can’t see them from this picture well, but the fabric looked absolutely fantastic.

The blond guy standing closer is wearing our Never Apart Ring with two skulls.

Once the boys left few more girls came out sporting more casual hair styles. The two girls in the middle are wearing our jewellery:) The model with the patterned dress is wearing our Golden Dreams Bangle and the model with brown long hair and black suit is wearing our New York necklace.

And to finish off the show – two more models with some rather unusual hair styles that I can’t imagine sporting somewhere on the tube…

The show finished with the creative art director explaining the hair styles, so all in all a great evening:)

I would like to say big thank you to the stylist Natalie Wo from Fashionblags who chose our pieces to style the models for the show. And here is a little video of Natalie receiving the very well deserved flowers from the creative director of Toni&Guy Sinead.

I hope you enjoyed my little catwalk report.

Statement earrings: get your ears into a spotlight

Las Vegas earrings by Jolita Jewellery

I love the feature Boticca – an online destination for unique accessories – released today. It’s all about ears!!

Boticca’s stylists selected a vast variety of earrings ranging from hoops to chandelier, so there’s something for everyone! I’m very pleased to see our Las Vegas earrings that I just posted about a couple of days ago. The first pair already gone to Australia, so if you want one – hurry up!

To see other fabulous pieces – head straight to Boticca’s page. I found them all so pretty, that I gave up choosing the favourites. I’ll leave it up to you.

Meanwhile we are working on more new pieces to make your ears look pretty. We are waiting for these beauties to be manufactured and then my brother will set to work. To make the earrings pictured below he will be hand-painting crystals and silk, that will be used to cover the stones.

I absolutely love the colours and texture, hope you find them beautiful too!

Love for The Love Magazine

OK, this magazine is not new to the fashion and art’s scene, but I must admit although I’ve seen it on the shelves of the news agents many times, I haven’t checked their site until today.

When I opened up The Love Magazine’s site I was greeted with La Cucaracha Dance by Brazilian model Adriana Lima, dressed up in Prada SS09. The dance really made my day, I absolutely loved it. Check it out, it put me in a superb mood:) [if you click on the image it will take you to the video]

One other thing that really caught my attention was an editorial, which is shown at a very slow speed. It was so much better than looking at a still picture. It made me feel as if I am there, as if this is all happening right now, right in front of my eyes. Have a look at their featured section, a piece called “Cold Summer”.

Definitely a fab site to visit for some relaxation on Saturday:)

Oh, and here’s the link to La Cucaracha Dance once again.

Have a wonderful day!

Friday Fashion Inspiration

I’ve always said how much I admire the big fashion houses embracing social media and today I just have to share something really fun. Louis Vuitton has an amazing interactive “game” that shows you how to pack a suitcase.

The Art of packing from Louis Vuitton

Yes of course it is based on beautiful Louis Vuitton bags with a number of amazing accessories, clothes and shoes by the LV as well. There’s even a pouch for packing your jewellery. I want one!!!!

Regardless, this is very informative and gives brilliant tips how to make the most out of the space you have. Summer is the time for holidays and there couldn’t be a better timing for releasing the “game”.

I have added a link to the video below, but definitely would recommend going to the website and packing a selection of items into Louis Vuitton suitcases. I AM ADDICTED.

Happy Friday!

New colourful statement earrings

I spent a day with my brother at his workshop yesterday, which was great fun. Whilst I was cradling my laptop, he was working on new pieces and made some new statement earrings in bright and really fun colours.

I saw the silk being painted and then covering the sparkly rocks, I saw crystals being painted in various colours, I saw the pieces drying, being photographed and I even did a bit of modelling for the day to shoot the pictures of what the earrings look like when on.

And the best part – all the new pieces are clip-ons, so even if you don’t have your ears pierced you can still wear the earrings!

Through the Stylist’s eyes

It’s been a very busy week for Jolita Jewellery. A number of meetings with various people, working on jewellery, delivering to our customers and co-ordinating a number of requests for photo shoots. Which made me think and create a Pinterest board that showcases the fabulous images we have gathered from these amazing opportunities.

Sometimes our jewellery is styled in rather unusual ways, i.e. bangles worn as crowns, necklaces worn as headpieces or as anklets. I absolutely love seeing how the jewellery piece created by my brother comes to life in a photo shoot and the more unusually it is used – the more excited I am.

Please come and have a look at our Pinterest board, leave your comments and likes as we are curious which images are most attractive:)

Best wishes,

Voodoo: new collection is out!

If you are familiar with our jewellery line, then you will know our obsession over skulls. My brother loves using them in his creations and his inspiration comes from Memento Mori style jewellery, which translated from Latin means “Remember Your mortality“, “Remember You will die” or “Remember You must die“.

It is believed that the phrase memento mori originates from ancient Rome. As a Roman general was parading through the streets during a victory triumph, standing behind him was a slave, tasked to remind the general that today he is at his peak, but tomorrow he may fall (source Wikipedia).

This thought flourished during Christianity, emphasizing on the emptiness of earthly pleasures, luxuries and achievements.

Taking his inspiration from this era my brother created a selection of new pieces featuring skulls, which were the main symbols accompanying the period.

“In death I am reborn” necklace

In death I am reborn - Jolita Jewellery necklace

The name of this necklace comes from the motto of an old French village, which is inspired by Memento Mori style jewellery. The piece is made of bronze skulls cast from original Balenese carvings. The skulls are joined with aged sterling silver links to form a rosary style necklace. It is adorned with vintage horse charm.

Also back by popular demand is our Kissing skulls necklace. In the necklace picture below the skulls are dipped in 24k yellow gold, however we can make this piece with two silver skulls or one silver/one gold skull if desired.

In the image above you can also see a Single Skull earring. The skull is dipped in gold, made with 14k gold filled stud and suspended from a gold filled fine chain. If you like to bring some controversy to your outfit – single skull earring will do the trick. If you prefer to be more conventional – we can create a pair of earrings.

For those who prefer sterling silver pieces – take a look at our Skull earrings and Skull and Cross earrings.

All skulls in Voodoo collection are cast from original Balenese carvings and each piece is inspired by memento mori style jewellery.
